TDC Day 7: Day 7 Introduction Video (TDCVideoPDF)

TDC Day 7a: Day 7 How To Set Up Google Analytics (TDCVideoPDF)

  1. Sign up to Google Analytics - you can use your Google account.
  2. Create a profile for your website.
  3. Google should give you some code to put on your website, you will need to find your Google Analytics ID, it looks something like: UA-5298347-1
  4. Follow the PDF instructions to set up Google Analytics in WordPress Direct.
  5. If you are not using WordPress Direct then place all of the code, not just the ID in your footer.php file under Design>Themes>Theme Editor. Or you can install a plugin like Semiologic’s).
  6. You will have to wait 24 hours for Google to start having enough data to show you something.

TDC Day 7b: Tracking Affiliate Links (TDCVideoPDF)

  1. In order to be able test which affiliate links are working and which work best, you’ll need to be able to track them.
  2. If you are not getting a sale with 200 people clicking on a link then this is a very poor performing ad.
  3. Go to the TDC Dashboard and in the sidebar, look for Quick Links then TDC Stats Tracker.
  4. Click on New URL: enter a name and description for you to recognise it, enter your affiliate link.
  5. You will get a new link that looks like http://locatereviews/3597353553 – if you return to the TDC Stats Tracker this allows you count how many people clicked on your link. You can then look at your Google Analytics data to see how many people viewed your website and your affiliate account to see how many people bought. These are all essential statistics (also known as metrics) to measure.
  6. Note that you can reset the count at any time (eg if you were clicking on the link yourself to test it was working).
  7. Note that this procedure cloaks the link and some advertising networks do not let you do this – though this is not an issue if you keep it on your own website.
  8. Go and get your affiliate link from your chosen affiliate service: Amazon, ClickBank, Commission Junction, eBay or anywhere else and create your tracked link. It will give you a new link to use instead of your affiliate link.

TDC Day 7c: Adding Tracked Links To Your Blog (TDCVideoPDF)

  1. Basically the same procedure as creating a sales offer link in 6d but using your TDC Stats Tracker link from Day 7.
  2. Follow the WordPress Direct PDF instructions.
  3. Change your sale offer link to that of your tracking link.
  4. Edit your content so that it contains 1-2 links to your tracking link (any more and it will look spammy):
    1. select your keyword phrase and click on the link icon to turn it into a link – use your tracking link;
    2. making a keyword phrase a link actually tells Google that this link is relevant to that keyword phrase – so your ad gets an optimised backlink from your blog – this helps your ad in Google.
  5. You should now have setup your Google Analytics account, added your Google Analytics ID to your WordPress Direct settings area for your blog, gone to the TDC Stats Tracker and setup the tracking link for your affiliate product and added that tracking link to the Sale Offer Widget and no more than two times in your article.

Because our Summary was over 25,000 words and was taking forever to load – we’ve split it up and posted them according to the date they were originally allocated to – ie over August 2008 – it’s easiest to access all of them from the Thirty Day Challenge 2008 Summary page.

Note the quick links to the originating Thirty Day Challenge page (TDC), the relevant YouTube video (Video) and the transcript (PDF) for your convenience to help you access the study materials.
