How to blog #15 – Configuring your TypePad blog’s categories
Configuring Categories
While you can add categories when you are creating and editing your blog posts. The “Categories” section of the Configure tab lets you manage categories for the whole of your blog.
Default Categories
TypePad gives you a number of default categories and enables them all to show up.
You can’t delete these, but you can unselect checkbox in the “Enable” column and this category will no longer show up in your list of category options when you’re writing blog posts. To get the category back, just reselect its checkbox.
Custom Categories
TypePad lets you enter your own categories. If you created a new category when you were writing post, it would show up here.
You can add more categories by typing in a new name in one of the blank fields and saving. You will only get a few blank category fields at first, if you fill them up when you save them, more new blank fields will be created so you should be able to put in as many categories as you wish.
If you wish to remove one of these custom categories, hit the “Delete” button next to the relevant category. Be aware that though will delete that category from any post that was assigned to it. It will not delete the post though.
When you’re happy with your changes, hit save.
Then you will be prompted to republish your blog.
Next up, we’ll go through how to set up your publicity options in TypePad.
